This 1767 map was created for safe navigation of the swamps of western Florida, noting details like "choak'd up with logs." At the time, Great Britain had recently taken control of this region from Spain. Soon after, during the American Revolution, Spanish commander Bernardo de Galvez led a siege of Pensacola against the British and their Choctaw allies, successfully eliminating British military presence from the Gulf Coast.
