Description

Letter by Nancy C. Russell to Mr. Whitney; thanks him from Charles M. Russell for the dogsled, states that Charles is presently trying to cast a bear and that they will be in New York in January. Handwritten on both front and back (TU2009.39.901.1-TU2009.39.901.2).

-1- Sept 1910 My dear Mr. Whitney It seems like ingrati tude in Chas not thank ing you for the dog sledge but we have not been in Great Falls for more than two months, we knew there was an express package there, but did not know what it con tained. Now that he knows Chas thanks you very much and he will be able to use it ^this model^ in some of his work. -2- we are sorry you have given up the idea of coming here we have been here all summer and I have not had a mosquito bite evidently some one had a grudge against this lake. Mr. Goodwin is here and at this moment he and Chas are modeling a bear and are trying to make a cast of it they are not having -3- any to much success but lots of fun so that balances all failures. We expect to be in New York in Jan. and hope you and Mrs. Whitney will return from Mexico while we are there.

The Homer and Helen Britzman collection consists of over 10,000 objects belonging to Charles M. Russell including letters, drawings, personal belongings, photos, and other memorabilia. Homer Britzman worked extensively with Charles Russell’s wife, Nancy, to write Russell’s biography. Chain of custody: Nancy Russell, Homer and Helen Britzman, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Amon Carter (inventoried collection in 1997), Gilcrease Management Trust (will become property of TU Special Collections if management agreement between TU and the City of Tulsa is severed).
