Description
Letter by Nancy C. Russell to Miss Jean Ironside; thanks Ironside for the birthday gift, states that she and Jack shall go the Lake McDonald in June. Typed.
[handwritten] File Jeannie Ironside Pasadena, California. May 24, 1932. Hello Kid: Thanks for your birthday letter and I would much rather you would feed somebody in my name than send me a gift. Just thinking of it was a very sweet thing to do. You are such a funny duck no one knows what you are really doing but I hope things are not going too badly with you and your friends. It must be a lovely time of the year in Alaska and you like the country so much that some joy will come to you even if you do see hungry folks. I live pretty much to myself so do not see much of the real hunger but there are demands every day for things and I do the best I can in the way of giving. You would be surprised how fine daddy looks. He and Uncle Lafe batch in the little apartment that daddy has hooked on to his house. He has a good tenant in the house and he is getting younger looking every day. As soon as school is out, which I think is June 17th, we will hit the trail North again to the Lake . Each year I dread going more than the year before. Things are so different at Lake MacDonald since Charlie has gone and this place is really beautiful – lots of fruit which I miss when I am away two months during the sum- mer but Jack wants to go. He has a little old horse up there and I know Charlie would want him to ride and enjoy. Of course, I really like it too but not as much as I used to. Old Dad Time is ‘kinda’ stiff- ening up my limbs and deposting [sic] fat where I don’t want it so I think I am just a little lazy. How about you? Have you gained an ounce of flesh or are you still the skinny that you were? Lots of love and I hope you get all the berries you want this year. Miss Jeane Ironside Seward, Alaska.
