Trail’s End Pasadena, California October 18th, 1927 Mr. Erwin S. Barrie Grand Central Art Galleries 15 Vanderbilt Avenue New York, N.Y. AIR MAIL Dear Mr. Barrie: Upon my return to Trail’s End I found your two letters of October fifth and fourteenth. I wired you today as follows: “Letter received. I will take the month of November for Memorial Exhibition as originally planned opening the seventh. Had letter from Doctor Cole. Will you consult him regarding number of pictures you wish to borrow from his collection. I am writing full description of number I have to ship. Make four bronzes One Thousand Dollars to Cole.” In the letter that I had from Dr. Cole he seemed to think it was a great mistake my not going on with the exhibition this fall. We had talked of the show a good deal to our very best clients but you had not given me a definite date and I just felt possibly the exhibition should not be put on this year, that you were not quite ready for it, but your letter has removed all of that feeling and I am sure by the end of three weeks we can get the thing together so that it will do credit first to Charlie, and second to the Gallery. I am enclosing the list of the pictures that I can send and their titles. If you will either go to Dr. Cole’s residence or have someone go for you and find out the size and number of pictures that he would be willing that you should use from his collection. He has been most generous in offering to loan them and to him they are very great treasures, the same as to me and I appreciate so much his willingness to allow them to be used. There is also the McKay collection in Inglewood. I will write Mr. McKay if he wishes to loan any of them. This is more in form of compliment than the desire of having the responsibility of his pictures. Them a Mr. Sack there in New York has two oils that I would be happy to hang in the exhibition, one I will ship with my things from here, the other we will get from his apartment. You said you would tend to all details. If there is anything that I should know please wire me as letters take such a long time to be delivered here. How many pieces of bronze have you from the Roman Bronze Works?
