[1] [handwritten] Dec 31st 28 My dear Nancy --- “Where the trails of men are far apart” how Charley did love a country like that – and so we feel that a lot of the real Charley Russell is in the Water color and so we cherish it – and thank you for it – we had [2] a very happy Christmas with all present and on their feet- Helen took Mary-Ellen to Camden S.C. last Thursday and I will join them when the boys go back to school – So now its[sic] bachelor camp here- next Friday Dr. [Grimmell]-Chas Tainter – [Quantina] and Mr. [Holmon] are all coming to see Charleys[sic] picture, so you see how his work is realy[sic] appreciated here – a very happy ^New^ year to you and Jack. ^very Sincerely^ Malcolm S. MacKay

The Homer and Helen Britzman collection consists of over 10,000 objects belonging to Charles M. Russell including letters, drawings, personal belongings, photos, and other memorabilia. Homer Britzman worked extensively with Charles Russell’s wife, Nancy, to write Russell’s biography. Chain of custody: Nancy Russell, Homer and Helen Britzman, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Amon Carter (inventoried collection in 1997), Gilcrease Management Trust (will become property of TU Special Collections if management agreement between TU and the City of Tulsa is severed).
