Transcript

July 28, 1930 Mrs. Nancy C. Russell, Bull Head Lodge, Belton, Montana. Dear Mrs. Russell: Thank you for your letter of July 22nd. We are sending the bronze “Where the Best of Riders Quit” to Guido Nelli as you instructed and we shall appreciate your advising them to return it to us. We have insured the bronze in transit to California but we shall be glad to assume this proportion of the expense and therefore will not bill you for the amount of the premium. The Homer and Helen Britzman collection consists of over 10,000 objects belonging to Charles M. Russell including letters, drawings, personal belongings, photos, and other memorabilia. Homer Britzman worked extensively with Charles Russell’s wife, Nancy, to write Russell’s biography. Chain of custody: Nancy Russell, Homer and Helen Britzman, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Amon Carter (inventoried collection in 1997), Gilcrease Management Trust (will become property of TU Special Collections if management agreement between TU and the City of Tulsa is severed).
