October 8, 1928 Mrs. Charles Russell, Great Falls, Montana. My dear Mrs. Russell: Just on the eve of sending one of your husband’s paintings, which by good for- tune came into my hands recently, to the Stendahl Art Galleries at Lon[sic] Angeles, a friend came into my store and told me that you may be interested in it also. If you are in the market for it will you wire me immediately to that effect, or bet- ter still call me long distance tomorrow morning? The picture is dated 1896 and I am inclosing[sic] a very poor Kodak picture of it. Hoping that I shall hear from you, I remain Cordially yours, [signed] Susan E. MacGilleray [handwritten] Main 1651

The Homer and Helen Britzman collection consists of over 10,000 objects belonging to Charles M. Russell including letters, drawings, personal belongings, photos, and other memorabilia. Homer Britzman worked extensively with Charles Russell’s wife, Nancy, to write Russell’s biography. Chain of custody: Nancy Russell, Homer and Helen Britzman, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Amon Carter (inventoried collection in 1997), Gilcrease Management Trust (will become property of TU Special Collections if management agreement between TU and the City of Tulsa is severed).
