725 Michigan Boulevard Pasadena, California March 20, 1927 Dr. Philip G. Cole Casa d Manana La Jolla, California Dear Philip and Katherine[sic]: I am enclosing the verses for “Where Tracks Spell War or Meat” and the descriptions of some of your paintings. When I come to put them in words I feel utterly at a loss to express what Charlie would if he were here but maybe they will help your small boy when he wants to look at them. I had a letter from the Roman Bronze people dated March 8th in which they say they have delivered to your address at 470 Vanderbilt Avenue, Brooklyn, the bronze model “Secrets of the Night”, “Jim Bridger” and the “Buffalo Hunt” repaired. Your secretary will notify you if they were O.K. If you and Katherine are in Los Angeles again I hope you let me come or send for you and see my house now. It really is very cozy and looks very nice since the yard is in order. I am so glad I have had the pleasure of knowing you people better and will look forward to seeing you whenever our trails come close together. I appreciate what you have done for me I hope you will always enjoy the Russell things as much as you do now. I feel you have some of the very best work Charlie ever did. Kindest regards to you both. Sincerely, MG
