[1] 725 Michigan Blvd., Pasadena, California. September 24th, 1934. Mr. H. V. N. Clark, Courthouse Farm. Offham, Lewes, England. Dear Sir: Your letter of August 25th, was received while I was in the mountains in Montana. We have just arrived at home and I enclose a little folder with an insert of a reproduction of two paintings. The only thing this will do is show you the composition which is all you need as you already know the quality of color and drawing that Mr. Russell put into his work. The other photographs I sent you in March were addressed to you at The Paddocks, Rottingdean, Sussex, England. They were larger photographs and clearer but from the same paintings.. Regarding Russell picture owners in England, I cannot recall all of them but among them are H.R.H. The Prince of Wales who I know has one called “When Law Dulls the Edge of Chance. It is a Northwestern Mounted Police picture. The Duke of Connaught has one, the title of which is “Doubtful Hand Shake”. It shows a white man shaking hands with an Indian but it is evident they do not trust each other. A man by the name of Grenfield of the Morgan Company had four of Mr. Russell’s canvases which were purchased in Canada in 1912. There are other pictures in England and pictures scattered pretty much all over the world but I do not just just[sic] where they are. I truly hope this letter will reach you as you must think I am very much disinterested in trying to find a painting for you. I assure you this is not the case. You will note I have written the size and price of the pictures on the backs of the prints for your information. If you are interested in the bronze statuary, I shall be very glad to send you other photographs of the bronzes. -2- Mr. H. V. N. Clark Thank you for the kindness in letting me know you did not receive the other photographs. Very truly yours, Encl. $12,000.00 for the Call of the Laww [sic] $14,000.00 for the In the Enemy’s Country
