From Dan Conway to Nancy C. Russell, February 12, 1928
Description
From Conway, two pages, February 12, 1928, requests reproductions of Charles M. Russell's sculptures for third annual art exhibit in Great Falls.
February 12th, 1928 Mrs. Nancy C. Russell, 725 Michigan Blvd., Pasadena, California Dear Mrs. Russell:- It again approaches the season of our annual Art Exhibit in Great Falls , and indications are that this year's effort will be even a finer show than that of 1928 . It has just occurred to me that I might be able to do some good for you this year by placing a few orders for reprod- uctions of Charlie ' s sculptures . Of course, you know our Art Exhibit centers entirely around Charlie’s work , his water colors , canvases, and sculptures , and I have found from experience the last two years that many people are interested in knowing where they can obtain and how they can obtain re- productions of his wonderful models. If you could see your way clear to ship me a few of the bronzes , I would make a special effort - through interpreting them in my lectures - to dispose of some of these for you. I would suggest, say a few small pieces and one or two of the larger ones , so that I might through proper interpre- tation, add the human interest which would give color to the smaller pieces . Take for instance, “Secrets of the Night” , "The Medicine Man" and “Winter” or some other like pieces combined with “Bear and Cubs” or some other similar[sic] piece , whichever one or two of the larger pieces you could send, I would lead up to a sale of some of the smaller pieces . On such sales the commission[next] -2- is only 5%. The dates for the 1929 show have been definitely set for March 21st , 22nd, 23rd and 24th, and offerings for exhibition or exhibition and sale should reach us not later than the 19th of March. Enclosed herewith you will find copies of our entry blank for your personal use. We hope, Mrs. Russell, that you can find your way clear to send some of the sculptures. I have been exceedingly busy during the past two or three months . I have just completed a can1paign for a greater Columbus Hospital , which resulted in the raising of $ 250,000.00, $ 100, 000. 00 more than I had set for my goal. I am now starting another campaign for the Deaconess Hospital , my objective being $ 275. 000.00. In addition to this, I have the Art Exhibit , the Rotary Convention and several other incidental pieces of work, which have kept me occupied day and night . I have been hoping to hear from you before this time, relative to matters which are of common interest to both of us but I presume that you have been very busy. I am, however, looking for a letter from you soon, as soon as you have time to write. Mrs. Conway joins me in extending to you best wishes for continued happiness and the girls send their regards to Jack. Sincerely yours, [signed] Dan Conway DCR-r
