Transcript

[handwritten] Sept 13th 1931 Mrs C. M. Russell. Pasadena, Calif. Dear Mrs. Russell: The studio will close for the season Sept. 20. that is just one week from today. We have have[sic] more than ten thousand visitors to date. This week I am designating as Great Falls week, or education week, so designated because school classes or groups are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to hear the explanation or lecture on the exhibit. I bought the water color made in 1917 of Lewis and Clark recently and have submitted a proposition to the Osborne Company for publication, years ago a copyright sign was added to the picture in pencil [illegible] [next] [page 2] This picture is easily the most popular number I have on display and for that reason have chosen it for early publication. A statement from you to the affect that it has not been copyrighted under name, published or sold for publication to your knowledge will permit me to consummate an arrangement whereby this interesting number will be permanently a memorial possession, a new interesting print added to the few we have and at the same time have the Osborn Co help finance the addition. Whatever you say to boost the transaction as well as a prompt statement forwarded directly to the Osborne Co. will be greatly appreciated. It is to cold today to e comfortable in the studio consequently I am coming straight to the point as briefly as possible, will write again in a few day[sic] giving final [respect?] of activities Respectfully [signed] [S.?] Schaudies
