[handwritten] October 1st 1931 Mrs C. M. Russell. Pasadena, Calif. Dear Mrs. Russell: I know you will be pleased to have final report on activities at the memorial. The closing date, Sept 20th, I kept a cheery fire going in the old fire place and was busy until late, mostly Great Falls people. The day was [illegible] A count of name registered disclosed rather startling facts. 12,300 were registered from 527 different town or cities; every state was represented, together[illegible] with six foreign countries. This is an increase over registration of the same [illegible][illegible] [illegible] a year ago of 50%. Montana is both registration and cities a town represented ^was just^ followed in order by California New York, Minnesota, and Illinois. [next] [page 2] minutes time to simply state that the “Lewis & Clark”, picture is not copyrighted by you and mail it directly to the Osborne Co. Can I secure creditable prints from any other source other than those published by the Osborne Co. The Brown and B[illegible] and Doubleday Doran. Co.? I feel a need for better wok than [hos?] been ^highest fare^ been offered by the Brown B[illegible] Co. and the plate [illegible] to was C[illegible] In order that I might not worry you with perhaps unimportant details I will close. Notes
The Homer and Helen Britzman collection consists of over 10,000 objects belonging to Charles M. Russell including letters, drawings, personal belongings, photos, and other memorabilia. Homer Britzman worked extensively with Charles Russell’s wife, Nancy, to write Russell’s biography. Chain of custody: Nancy Russell, Homer and Helen Britzman, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Amon Carter (inventoried collection in 1997), Gilcrease Management Trust (will become property of TU Special Collections if management agreement between TU and the City of Tulsa is severed).
