Transcript

October 9, 1931. Mr. S. E. Schaudies 1219 Fourth Avenue, North, Great Falls, Montana. Dear Mr. Schaudies: Your letter of some time ago is just getting answered now but I am sure you don’t mind. Regarding the “wooing of Hiawatha” – As I Remember it that picture was made for shoe house but I am sorry to say I can’t tell you who made the cuts nor who owns the rights to it now. Maybe the print has the name of the calendar house on it and in that way you might be able to trace it down. I am prefectly[sic] willing that you should have some prints from “Good Medicine” “When I was a Kid” and I am sure Doubleday Doran, when they reprint “Trails Ploughed Under” will be very glad to take ex- tra cuts for you. I trust you will be able to have the Memorial dedicated as you have planned which, as I understand it is to be under a perpetual board either the Park or the County in some way so that you will have a much freer hand in handling the whole situation. This is vague in my mind. During our conversation last year, there was a sugges- tion of your having to exhibit one of my paintings but I believe you have all of the originals that you care to be responsible for there and as you have a number of the bronzes, do you think that will be enough? If you do want another painting, let me know early enough because last when I hear from you I had already put the pictures in the vault.
