January 3, 1923. Office o f the Vice President. IN REPLY REFER TO PGC:EG. Mr. Charles M . Ru ssel, Gre a t Falls, Mont. My dear Mr. Russel [sic]: I believe that you are aware that I have in my home a t No. 8 Markwood Road , Forest Hills, Lon g Island, your large (about 6' x 4') painting en- titled "The Buffalo Hunt", which was le f t me by my father, Dr. Charles K. Cole, at hi s death. This is the same large picture which was at one time owned by Senator Paris Gibson, and later hung in the Rocky Mountain Club, at the Waldorf in New York , and more recently on the mezzanine floor of th e Placer Hotel in Helena, where my father loaned it. I have recently had this picture cleaned, reframed and hung in my home. Am confident that you will agree with me when I say t h a t the light ef- fect on the sky , Square >B

The Homer and Helen Britzman collection consists of over 10,000 objects belonging to Charles M. Russell including letters, drawings, personal belongings, photos, and other memorabilia. Homer Britzman worked extensively with Charles Russell’s wife, Nancy, to write Russell’s biography. Chain of custody: Nancy Russell, Homer and Helen Britzman, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Amon Carter (inventoried collection in 1997), Gilcrease Management Trust (will become property of TU Special Collections if management agreement between TU and the City of Tulsa is severed).
