From James B. Rankin to Homer Britzman, October 28, 1938
Description
Letter by James B. Rankin to Homer Britzman; tells Britzman how he wishes to see the photographs of the Charles M. Russell paintings that Britzman has recently acquired. Handwritten on both front and back. Was oringinally attached to TU2009.39.2416.
[handwritten] October 28, 1938 Dear Mr. Britzman: Thank you for yours of the 18th of October & the data on your two new pictures. Please tell me how they are signed (CMR or CM Russell) if they are dated I have the buffalo skull mark. Yes, I should like to have photographs or Photostats (glossy) of them, together with your 2 permission to reproduce them in my books. Since you know Con Price I wonder if you would ask him who the lady is, in New York, who owned these pictures. She might be able to give me some information on CMR’s life, etc.. I have sought in vain to get Price’s story about his friendship with Charlie Russell. Being unable financially to offer him money for his account, 3 has naturally been a handicap to me. Incase you have any persuasive powers over him I’d appreciate your efforts on my behalf, as Con did know CMR well & for a long time. Due to the sudden & totally unexpected death of my dear mother, I have temporarily post- poned work on my books. How- ever I am anxious to complete them and will soon resume my writing. [verso] 4 Appreciating your very kind co operation with me and with all good wishes to you in the hope that you & Mrs. Britzman are well. (Mrs. Russel has told me of your wife’s illness) Very sincerely yours, James B. Ranklin 423 W.118th St. New York
