Pasadena, California January 9, 1933 Dr. Philip G. Cole, 551 Fifth Avenue, New York City, New York. Dear Philip: You will think I am taking my time in answering your letter but I had hoped to have something definite to tell you about the two pictures, “Carson’s Men” and “A Bronc to Breakfast”, about which we talked when you were here but so far I have nothing to tell you that is worth anything. The Campbells who own Carson’s Men apparently went to sell it but won’t give me a price so that’s out. The other picture I haven’t heard from at all “Watching the Buffalo Runners” belongs to John Ritch and if he wanted to sell it, I think he would tell you and you could deal with him directly. I will tell you it is a good picture and different from anything you have. Now about your bronze. You are right about the ones you mentioned – “Smoking it Up” and “The War Dancers”. The “Scalp Dancer” I have no good model from which to work so it would not do any good to have that one sent. I am sorry. I can’t get a price from the Bronze Works until they see what is necessary to be done but I doubt if it will be a very expensive job. If you wish to send them to me, I will have the work done as quickly and as reason- ably as possible. When you send them be sure to men- tion the color you want them finished in – whether you want them dark or greenish of whatever color you prefer. The bronzes you do not have of Charlie’s that you were interested in here are “The Cryer” and “The Bronc Twister”. I am sending photographs to refresh your memory. I am also sending a photography of an oil painting 24 x 36”, the original of which is in good condition. It is for sale for $8,000.00 You may re- [over] Dr. Philip G. Cole -2- member I had this picture in New York at the Memorial Exhibition. The price now is just half what it was at that time but it may not fit in with your scheme of things at all. I thought I would tell you about it as it is one of the worth-while pictures. The water color “Christmas Eve at Fort Reed” is one you said you liked and the price of it is $1,000.00. “The Medicine Man” is the oil, 17 x 22 “ upright, and is $4,000.00. You will remember The Medicine Man is quite different from most of Charlie’s pictures as the main figure stands out very prominently; the others taking their place in the background showing that he is the head man of Medicine Man. If I get any news at all from the North regarding the other pictures, I will let you know. I am following your suggestion and letting them take their tiem about what they want to do. I hope your son got a lot of benefit from hi stay in California and that you are all in good health and that the New Year is bringing everything good to you. Sincerely, P.S.
