Transcript

November 24th, 1919. My dear Mrs. Russell: Thank you for your nice letter of the 17th. I wrote you as I did because when I was in Montana and looked at the picture, I made up my mind I should like very much to have it, if I could get it for $2,500, but did not feel that I would care to give more than that for it. Although I do like the picture very much, I should not care to buy it if I had to pay more than $2,500, so if you ever change your mind about this, I should be glad to hear from you. Pl ease remember me very kindly to your husband, and tell him I shall certainly hope to call on him on my next trip to Montana. Yours sincerely, [signed] George Baker

The Homer and Helen Britzman collection consists of over 10,000 objects belonging to Charles M. Russell including letters, drawings, personal belongings, photos, and other memorabilia. Homer Britzman worked extensively with Charles Russell’s wife, Nancy, to write Russell’s biography. Chain of custody: Nancy Russell, Homer and Helen Britzman, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Amon Carter (inventoried collection in 1997), Gilcrease Management Trust (will become property of TU Special Collections if management agreement between TU and the City of Tulsa is severed).
