Inscribed, "Called Silas jefferson. Official in (illegible). Is of mixed African and Creek heritage. Born in Alabama and raised among the Creeks in that state. removing with them in their present home in the Indian Territory. So to all intents and purposes one of the tribe, taking a wife from among them, and sharing all their (illegible). Was an interpreter for the loyal Creeks during the war. - Jackson (illegible)" on verso
