THE BOGY-MAN There's a dreadful naughty man That'll catch you if he can, And if ever you furgit, that's when he'll try; But he never makes a sound, And you never see him, 'cause he's awful sly; But no matter what you do, He can see, and hear you too, So you better had do right, 'cause if you cry, Or should stamp your foot, or pout, You is goin' to git found out And the Bogy-man will git you bye and bye! He's a face as black as coal, And his nose is just a hole, And he's awful awful wide, and mighty high! And his tongue is long and red, And there's two horns on his head, And his teeth is sharp, like spikes, O my; O my! And there's bristles on his jaws, And his finger nails is claws, And he's got a kind o' green and yeller eye! So you better mind your Dad, And you Ma, and not be bad, 'Cause the Bogy-man will git you bye and bye! He knows every kind o'trick, And he's just so mortal quick, He can catch you even if you's awful spry! And he sneaks around tip-toe, And no matter where you go, If you steal a sugar-plum or tells a lie, He'll just grab you like a gin, And he'll like his lips and grin, And he'll make you up into a kind of pie! So you got to just be good, And do only what you should, 'Cause the Bogy-man will git you bye and bye!
