To Major Genl. W. Scott U. S. Army Commdg [sic] Sir, The Estimate for the subsistence of persons and animals (on the road was only for eighty days) heretofore made way for the time only which it was supposed each party would be traveling to the country west …y[sic] 80 days, consequently the unavoidable detention by the frought and other causes at the point of starting, as you are aware have necessarily has not been have necessarily produced an ad an additional expense which I have not been provided as yet furnished with m…[sic] funds to meet. This expense for provisions, soap & forage amounts to Ninety Two Thousand and Seven Hundred and eighty One Dollars and fifty cents as will appear from the vouchers of issues here with submitted to me by Lewis Ross the Contractor – In order therefore to be prepared to this demand in good faith I am compelled to made this requisition on you that you may be pleased to give it such direction as to cause the af…[sic] aforesaid sum of Ninety Two Thousand Seven Hundred and eighty one dollars & fifty cents to be paid as soon as possible within at Nashville or Little Rock at Fort Smith – I am Sir very respectfully Your obt & hble sevt.
