Collection summary derived from "Guidebook to Manuscripts", 1969: This collection includes a variety of printed items. It has a newspaper notice of land to be auctioned from the estate of Thomas Latta by Josiah Crawford, estate administrator, a bill of lading addressed to C.C Wolcott in Sommersworth, New Hampshire for 5 barrels of apples from New York to Portsmouth New Hampshire on the sloop "Majestic", a printed leaflet from the Union Pacific Railway describing land for sale in Kansas and a mailing from the American Baptist Publication Society to M.D. Merrill in Hastings, Minnesota. There is also a card with signatures of John Fiske and Ogontz dated February 7, 1888 and 3 printed business cards from Johnathan Watkins & Brothers Proprietors, Watkins Mills, woolen goods, Lawson, Missouri. There is also a duplicate certificate for $1,200 payable for the entire in the claim of "Lunahle" signed in Atoka, Indian Territory, by John M. Hodges, P.E. Noel and E Poe Haness for the Commissioners of the Choctaw Nation. There is a letter from H.L. Strauss, Junior, of Peekskill, New York to William S. Bailey, Junior, Tulsa, Oklahoma, regarding his pleasure in meeting Bailey and his visit to the Gilcrease Museum. The letter refers to two "duplicate pieces of Americana" he sent to Mr.Bailey which are now in this file.

Provenance

The Gilcrease Foundation acquired these materials before 1964 and is housed in the Helmerich Center for American Research (HCAR). The library currently receives most materials through community donation, board members, artists and the acquisition of manuscript collections.

Processing Information

Staff, interns, and volunteers of the Thomas Gilcrease Library and Archive have contributed to the organization and maintenance of the files since the collection passed to the City of Tulsa in the 1950s.
