Collection summary derived from "Guidebook to Manuscripts", 1969: One circular letter and one handwritten note regarding the search for Lieutenant Dan Adams during the War of 1812. Adams, who was in charge of a volunteer company of Grenadiers, went missing and it is suspected that Native Americans were holding him captive. Collection summary derived from "Guidebook to Manuscripts", 1969: During the War of 1812, Lieutenant Dan Adams, of a volunteer company of Grenadiers, was lost. This is a circular offering $1,000 reward to the Indian or Indians who may have the possession, or claim the ownership of the said Dan Adams. The circular was signed by the following: Parmenio Adams Oliver G. Adams Charlora Adams - of Genessee Co., N. Y. John Adams Truman Adams - of Onondaga Co., N. Y. James Adams - of Sangamon, Illinois. The circular was dated August 16, 1824, but it is attested to by Peter B. Porter and dated Black Rock, New York, October 7, 1824. On the inside of the folded sheet is a letter written and signed in the hand of Nathan Wight to the Master of Poorhouse in Hingam, dated Boston, July 13, 1827. This letter concerns a resident by the name of William Gregory who had also been a prisoner with the Indians, asking if he might have information concerning the above mentioned Dan Adams. The second item is inside the folded sheet. It is a hand-written note dated at July 13, 1827 In Boston from Nathan Wright to Master of the Poorhouse in Hingham. He is seeking information concerning Adams from William Gregory, an inmate who had been held captive by Indians

Staff, interns, and volunteers of the Thomas Gilcrease Library and Archive have contributed to the organization and maintenance of the files since the collection passed to the City of Tulsa in the 1950s.
