Order from Maj. George W. Clarke to Col. John Drew concerning the purchase of beef and salt, September 2, 1861
Major George W. Clarke was the Quarter Master at Fort Smith and Colonel John Drew was with the Cherokee Mounted Rifles. Major Clarke ordered Colonel John Drew to instruct his Quartermaster or Commissary to purchase fresh beef and salt at the lowest price in the open market. Major Clarke instructs that the purchase will be used for rations. Folder 275

H. J. Vann was the clerk for the Canadian District of the Cherokee Nation. If there J. M. Bryant's property was not sufficient enough to settle the cost then the property of John T. Drew and J. A. Scales could be levied upon, as they were his securities. Pencil markings on recto indicate that the order was collected in full by the Dept. Sheriff. Folder 465
