Verso is a stamp that reads 'This is to certify that the subject herewith identified: Indian Smoking Pipe Original Model by C.M. Russell (information handwritten) was an asset of the Estate of Nancy C. Russell, deceased. June 1941 (illegible signature) as executor of the above estate.'

Russell join Howard Eaton on a six week trip to Arizona. They departed on September 9, 1916 to see the Grand Canyon and visit the Navajo and Hopi country.
