The Removal of the Cherokee, circa 1927
Typescript of an essay titled "The Removal of the Cherokee" by John Madden. Describes how the comissioner J.F. Schermerhorn arranged the Treaty of 1835 in absence of Cherokee officers. By this treaty, the Cherokee Nation ceded to the U.S. all territory east of the Mississippi River. Includes history of the removal from June 1838 to March 1839. Folder 65
The Rip-Snorter, late 19th century - early 20th century
Two page leaflets, no 1 vol 1 printed and published at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Written in pencil along the tip and right sides, 'This anonymous sheet was supposed to have been printed in the Sioux Falls Leader office in 1883. It was gotten out in the fight between Judge Brooklins and the late Senator, Pettigun who were mortal enemies. Ernest V. Sutton.'

The remarks of the photograph include, "After a kill of buffalo and the meat and hides have been brought into camp the hide, or robe, is staked out on the ground and the woman with a sharp-edged bone scrapes all of the flesh and fat from the hide preparing it for tanning."
