Stan V. Henkels "Remarks" at the beginning of the auction booklet gives a brief biographical account of John Trumbull’s role in the American Revolution and some of the points in Trumbull’s life following America’s independence. Henkels notes a number of important works he cataloged in the Trumbull collection: Trumbull’s papers during the Fifth Commission, autographed letters, and five engravings for the "Surrender of Cornwallis".
