Duplicate letter from Henry Knox, of the War Office, to Colonel Marinus Willett in Alexandria, Virginia discussing the coming visit of the Creek leaders and the activities of Colonel McGillivary and Colonel Howard. In his letter, Knox discusses the travel progress of McGillivray and the other Creek leaders as highly satisfactory. Knox also expresses his hope in the outcome of this intense endeavor between the United States and the Creek Nation. Knox mentions writing to the Governors of Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania to help bridge the fledging relationship between the Creek Nation and the United States. To help prepare for the arrival of the traveling party, Knox requests an update from Willett about the number of leaders attending, the party’s anticipated arrival date, and the preferred lodging arrangements for the guests. Knox concludes by warning Willett of the Spaniards knowledge of the meeting between the United States and the Creek leaders by asking Willett to keep an eye on the dispatched Captain Howard of the Spanish army.
